Counselling September 2020
Back to School Plan
I have gone from meeting students online in their homes on TEAMS to now being very clinical and appointment based. Both are very against my philosophy of connecting with kids, but I obviously need to find new ways to help and provide for students, their friends, and their families.
Thanks for your understanding,

Back to School Plan
- The priority at the start of this year, will be individual, one-on- one counselling and/or mediations, by appointment only.
- Teachers can send me an email of any students that they are concerned about in terms of any social emotional issue. I will schedule a mutually agreed upon session with the student at my earliest convenience. I will have to consider prioritizing the needs of each student/case, but I will try my best to do it within a timely manner.
- If it is an immediate concern, that cannot wait, please send an adult to my office or page the main office and I will come and retrieve the student.
- Please do not send a student(s) unless we have arranged it in advance.
- If a student is not feeling well and needs to be out of the classroom, the teacher or classroom EA is to notify the main office ASAP. Our office staff will check the vacancy of the medical space and then direct the adult or the student to come down to the medical room or another approved area. (The medical room is the small, closed space across from the conference room.) As info, The couches have been moved from the student counselling area for health reasons.
- Students will not longer be able to socialize at breaks or during lunch in the counselling area. It is highly suggested that they go an grab some mask free, fresh air outside!
- If students need feminine products, there will be some in the main office and some left on the table in the front area of the counselling space.
- Students can still seek their own appointments, by filling out an appointment sheet and leaving it in the box outside my door or by emailing me. I will connect with their teachers to see what works for the classroom teaching/testing schedule.
- Parents can also contact me with concerns or for resources at [email protected] and 204-785-2036
- I will also be available to meet with students, by appointment only, during the lunch period.
- At this point I will not be arranging any outside agencies to come to the school for classroom or assembly presentations. The following programs will not be running until further notice: Peer Helpers, Teen Talk, Big Brother/Big Sister and Group Counselling. ☹ After the start up and determining student needs, we hope to add in some classroom counselling opportunities.
