Teaching your children life skills, coping strategies and social emotional health are also an important "lessons" that can be done at home. Below are some online resources that you can have your children do on their own or you can check out together as a family.

The Calm In the Storm app is a digital stress management tool that uses clinical research that has been proven to manage stress. The stress assessment app helps users better understand what stress is, what their current level of stress is, and how to properly manage stress - using visual, audio and video of meditative practices. Users can save their scores and track the development of their stress over time. This is an excellent way to monitor progress on a stress reduction initiative, or to simply achieve a baseline of stress over a period of time. I have used this app in counselling sessions to show students how to be mindful and use on their own time.

As a parent, you want your kids to be confident and resilient with high self-esteem and ambition to achieve great things in life. You want them to have a positive outlook on life and try new things. And at the same time, you don't want them to be afraid of making a mistake or think they "can't do" before they even try.
Big Life Journal sells personal kid friendly journals and they also have a series of podcasts. I subscribe to the pod casts on I-tunes and my son has the journal Big Life Teen. The prompts are very age appropriate and appealing to youth. They also sell a child's format-https://biglifejournal.com/

My Blueprint is comprehensive education and career/life planning program with the tools students need to make the most informed decisions about their futures. All ESMS, grade 9 students have already began completing aptitude tests and interest inventories on this site. They have also received in class instruction on building a resume. Students can continue to work within this program to complete their resume and add to their portfolio. Hint: This would be a great place to manage and store your homework. Students just use their regular computer log-in to access this site. Other grades click below for how-to and added information.
Young Worker's Readiness Certificate
Earn this certificate at home and be ready for seeking summer employment. Young people who are 13, 14, or 15 years of age need to complete a Young Worker Readiness Certificate Course before they can begin working, and there are rules that restrict their hours of employment and the types of work they can perform. Minimum standards such as general holidays, vacations, minimum wage and termination apply to all employees regardless of age. https://ywrcc.safemanitoba.com/
Aulneau Renewal Centre, like other organizations, continues to be concerned about COVID-19. Our values include compassion and at this time, we extend compassion and concern for our community. Counsellors will be offering sessions via phone or video. We are exploring additional options for tele-conferencing.
YOU CAN'T POUR FROM AN EMPTY CUP
It will be important to take sometime for yourself now that your children are at home. Get outside, keep active and journal too. In our house we call it the Mandatory Rest Period. This is a time where everyone needs to pause to read, journal, rest, meditate or just breath, without electronics. ( It was actually used as a pause from students on long ski trips, thanks Mr. Neves) It's really is such an awesome quiet time without the "glow". There needs to some escape from social media, news feeds, gaming and the constant notifications pop-ups. The Calm in the Storm App (above) has guided body scans and breathing activities that "force" you to relax. These guided strategies are great for any age. Yes, they seem weird at first, but they honestly have worked for many of my students and myself. I have also included some adult journalling pages in the parent resource tab for you to consider. Check out the Parent Tab for more ideas
